U16 COE Girls pass on their skills

On Thursday 28th May players from the Norwich City Girls Centre of Excellence U16 squad took part in a Girls Only Taster day at Carrow Park for 4 - 8 year old girls.

The day consisted of fun football stations organised and delivered under the watchful eye of FITC staff by the U16 girls, as part of the girls completing their Junior Football Organisers course.

The day was divided in to two sessions the first was for girls aged 4 - 6 and just under 50 girls were put through their paces through games such as ‘strikers v goalkeepers' and ‘football bowling'.  In the afternoon it was the turn of 30 girls 6 - 8 year olds who had an opportunity to show their football skills in further games such as ‘cowboys and Indian's before rounding the day off playing small sided games.

Darren Moss - Norfolk FA Girls and Women's Development Officer said ‘The U16 girls were given the opportunity through the Centre of Excellence programme to achieve an FA recognised coaching qualification.  They have been working very hard over the last few weeks to ensure the day was a success.   As the U16 coach I am very proud of what they have achieved today and hopefully it will encourage them to continue on the coaching ladder'.

Emma Fletcher - FITC Girls and Women's Development Officer said ‘These taster days are designed to encourage girls to have a taste of how fun football can be.  They have had the opportunity to meet role models from the Centre of Excellence and maybe one day they will find themselves representing Norwich as part of the centre too.  By holding these types of sessions we gage just how popular the sport can be to young girls, it is important that from this we support them and help them follow the route if they wish into clubs.  I would like to say a big thank you to all the U16 Girls Centre of Excellence and Darren for their contribution to today's event'.
