Schools Grand Prix League comes to an end

Football in the Community's School Grand Prix League came to an exciting climax when all 4 trophies went to 4 different schools.

The tournament now in its 5th season is split into to 4 leagues, U14 boys, U16 boys, U16 girls and a mixed U16 league for players with more severe learning and mobility issues. The tournament is played over 3 dates with 14 Special Needs Schools involved from Norfolk and Suffolk.

In the U14 section it was Eaton Hall (Norwich) who triumphed with The Ashley School (Lowestoft) coming a close second. In the U16 girls league The Ashley School retained their title scoring over a hundred league goals in the process in a league that also included Sidestrand Hall (Cromer) and Fred Nichoslon (Dereham)

The U16 boys also went to the last day where a strong Sidestrand Hall team edged out Fred Nicholson to take the trophy and in the U16 SLD league Harford Manor started the day in second place but won all their remaining 7 matches to take the title for the second year running ahead of the Warren School (Lowestoft) and John Grant School (Caister).

The tournament provides an excellent opportunity for players with disabilities to play competitive football against players of similar abilities, it creates the perfect environment for the players to socialise with people from other schools and meet new friends as well as playing football and improving physical fitness.

Disability Officer Darran Lovell said ‘ I would like to say well done to all the players who took part and to all the teachers who continue to support our program and make every effort to attend all our activities, thank you'.
