FITC Masters Tournament
Tuesday 26th May saw Norwich City's Football in the Community host the 3rd Annual Norfolk Masters 6-a-side tournament. The competition was held on the main pitch at Carrow Road, adding to the atmosphere of the occasion.
To be eligible for the tournament all players have to be over 35 and must have played at least 1 game for the senior club side they are representing.
Competing teams included Wroxham, Gorleston, Watton, Fakenham, Dereham & Great Yarmouth.
Overall champions were Gorleston FC with a team comprising of former Gorleston players: Steve King, Jon White, Martyn Sinclair, Mark Ingram, Gary Ingram, Chris Clements and Albert Jones. Gary Ingram was also nominated player of the tournament.
Gorleston became the first club to retain the trophy having won it last year.
Wroxham FC were runners up - with Stewart Larter, Adrian Harris, Chic Crowe, Marty Hubble playing for Wroxham.
Gorleston Captain, Steve King said '' We always enjoy playing in the Norwich City Masters Tournament. This year it was excellent to play on Carrow Road and retain the trophy. It was also good to catch up with people we played against some time ago.''
Ian Thornton - Director FITC and Master Tournament organiser said '' Once again the tournament has been well received. The players enjoyed playing on Carrow Road with many sharing stories of previous Norfolk Senior Cup fixtures they have played in. The football was fair, yet competitive with some players clearly retaining their ability levels, regardless of age."
