FITC Masters 2008 Champions Crowned

Last Wednesday saw Gorleston FC crowned the 2nd FITC Masters Tournament winners.  The FITC Masters Tournament, supported by The Evening News and Pink 'Un, took place at Norwich City FITC's Carrow Park training facility on the 28th May 2008.

The 2008 Masters Tournament included teams from Wroxham, Norwich United, Yarmouth and Watton.

Tournament organiser and FITC Director Ian Thornton said "This year's tournament was even better than last year's.  The quality of football and the goals scored were a pleasure to see.  We had an excellent turn out of people coming to watch, which in turn created an excellent atmosphere for the players to perform in."

It was a very close and exciting tournament with Gorleston FC taking the FITC Masters Trophy by just one point, having scored a total of eight goals in four matches.  The winning Gorleston FC team were: Steve King, Paul Casey, Gary Skeggs, Paul Gibbs, Mark Ingram, Gary Ingram and Darin Scales.

Wroxham FC consisting of Chic Crowe, Adrian Harris, Marty Hubble, Paul Hartle, Ryan Lemmon, Matty Barbrook and Gavin Pauling took the Runners up spot closely followed by Watton United.

Steve King, winning captain for Gorleston said "Having just recovered from last year's tournament we are really pleased to win this year! The concept of Masters football is excellent and we appreciate FITC organising it.  Many of the players would like to get together more often, both to play football and socialise." Steve also went on to add "We're planning an open top bus tour round Gorleston in the next couple of days!!"

2007 Winners Yarmouth Town didn't do as well this year but were represented by some excellent former players such as Steve Rushbrooke, John Randall, Jon Cushion, Shaun Wright, Gary Butcher, Paul Cushion, Mark Armes and Mark Vincent.

Ian Thornton said "The tournament was only able to take place through the support from the Pink 'Un and Evening News.  Players would not only like to do it next year, they would like to do it more often, so hopefully we can respond to their request."
