Hucks joins Extra Time

Last week saw Darren Huckerby join our participants in the social hour of our weekly physical and social sessions.

Huck's who was there by popular demand answered some very interesting questions.

Here are some of the questions, along with Huck's answers:

What is so special about Norwich? "I like the place. It's a lovely place to live. I was very lucky. The manager and the fans believed in me straight away. It really meant something every time I played for Norwich".

"I came on loan and within two games I knew I wanted to sign for Norwich. It just felt right."

"Manchester City wanted money for me but I told them I was only going to one club. Even though other teams were offering more money it was about coming back here and finishing what we'd started."

What was your best football moment? - "Norwich winning the league. I have done it before with Man City but it was completely different, winning it with Norwich. We didn't necessarily have the strongest players in the league, but we had the strongest team in the league."

What was your best goal? - "I scored a couple of goals against Manchester United, which were rated. But probably it was the one against Birmingham."

What's next? - "I'm enjoying being here but I'm going back to America on January 30 for pre-season training. And I train at the gym every day."

"I would love to work in youth football. The gap is massive between youth team football and first team football. There is a lot of work to be done between the ages of about 16 and 20. You have got to make them better people as well as better players. There is not always so much respect now."

Norwich City is one of 16 Premiership and Championship clubs to be awarded the cash, as part of a national project to increase physical and social activities for over 60s.

Members get to try activities ranging from aerobics to hockey and tennis to Tai chi, the list of sports on offer also includes badminton, basketball, football, hockey, table tennis, swimming and yoga.

The sports sessions are run by qualified coaches at the Riverside Sports Centre and Wensum Lodge and are followed by time to socialise at Carrow Road - often with football heroes from Norwich City's past.

The programme is run in 10-week blocks and activities for the rest of the year include short walks in the countryside around Norwich and visits to Wembley and the Arsenal and Chelsea stadiums. There are still places on the Extra Time programme.
