Girls Player Development Centre Whitsun Review
Last week FITC held their annual Girls Player Development Centre U10's and U12's Tournament at Carrow Park on Friday 30th May 2008. Teams from Norwich, Lowestoft, Colchester, Ipswich and Bury competed against each other by playing 5-aside games.
The aim of the day is for the girls to take what they have learnt from their 36 week training programme and implement into games. As always, it is also great for the girls to have the opportunity to play against other Player Development Centres from around the region.
The U10's side from Lowestoft were eventual winners in their group, but all sides involved must be congratulated on their performances, both individually and as a team. It was the turn of Norwich's U12's to win their final against Lowestoft and seek revenge for their group game in which they lost to the Lowestoft side.
Emma Fletcher FITC Girls and Women's Development Officer said ‘we arrange this tournament every year for the girls, as a reward for all their efforts throughout the season. Whilst it is called a tournament, the emphasis is a bit of end of season fun. All girls were a credit to their centres.'
The U8's Girls Player Development Centre also had a chance to take part in their own mini festival over Whitsun Half Term. Teams from Colchester and Lincoln travelled to Norfolk to take part in 4 v 4 mini games against each other.
The Norwich U8's PDC are in their first season within the Girls Player Development Centre, the squad consists of 14 girls aged between 6 and 8. During training the girls will work on balance, co-ordination and Fundamentals, as well as basic football skills.
Emma Fletcher said ‘the U8's mini-festival was a great success, the girls love to play games and wear their club's football strip. A big thank you to both Lincoln and Colchester for bringing girls to the festival.'
If you would be interested in becoming involved in the Girls Player Development Centre then FITC will be holding their Girls Trials on the 5th and 6th July. For an application form click here or alternatively contact FITC offices for a form.
