Girls Player Development Centre Half Term Fixtures

February Half Term saw the U10, U12 and U14 Norwich City Girls Player Development Squads take part in a two-day training camp at Pinebanks, which finished with them travelling to play Cambridge and Colchester in an away fixture held at Cambridge.

Whilst the U8's stayed at home this time, they held their very own African Nations ‘Footie in Three's' tournament as they battled to see who would be crowned African Nations Champions!  The tournament was designed to encourage the girls to play plenty of attacking football, encourage team spirit, and improve their receiving skills and decision-making.

The U10's, U12's and U14's were given the opportunity on the Monday to spend a day together in their squads and work on set pieces and formations, before travelling the following day to Cambridge.

The U10's faced Colchester and produced their best performance to date, proving too strong for the very young Colchester side.  The U12's and U14's played a tri-angular against firstly Cambridge and then Colchester.    Once again both squads battled hard during their games and it was pleasing to see that part of what the girls had learnt on the previous day were used during the fixtures.

The Norwich Girls Player Development Centre runs once a week on a Tuesday in Norwich for U8's up to U14's, along with a specific Goalkeeping Group.  Football in the Community also have a Lowestoft Girls Player Development Centre held on a Thursday evening at Kirkley for U10's and U12's.

Player Development Co-ordinator Emma Fletcher said ‘The Girls Player Development Centres are a great opportunity for talented young girls to come together and receive additional coaching to their club coaching.   We hope that some of these girls will then progress to our Girls Centre of Excellence'.

To become a Girls Player Development Player, girls will have either been selected through our Girls trials held once a year in June/July or have been nominated by one of our FITC scouts or Club Managers.
